Wall Calendars: Yeah or Nah, Bro?

Image
In my office at work, I now have two wall calendars hanging on the all.  Both of them were shipped to me as 'gifts' from two different groups.  The one of the left is a Disney calendar that came as part of my D23 membership .  The one on the right came from the University of Illinois as part of their outreach program.  I have them both hanging right by my desk and - as of now - they're currently set to the right month. But...I have to wonder:  do these things provide any utility any longer?  I certainly don't mark them up with important dates and events.  In fact...I'll be surprised that I keep up with changing the months in a timely fashion.  The number of times I've walked into offices and people had their wall calendars set to 3 months earlier is too many to count. So...what do you think?  Wall calendars still useful?  Don't tell me you give them as gifts, do you?  Or...maybe...people love them?  (Some people?!?) I'm all set, thank you.

Winning Coffee Cup?

Image
This morning, I pulled a paper cup from the stack and the bottom was taped in red.  On the left is a normal cup.  On the right, my cup this morning. Is this like the Wonka Factory tour Golden Ticket?  Is ECOProducts - the makers of our paper coffee cups - trying to send me a message?  Seems like a recycled paper product factory tour is going to be a lot less fun than a candy factory.  But...maybe it wouldn't be all bad.  Perhaps, I'd meet someone like Veruca Salt?

Window Buffing in Chicago

Image
This morning I was greeted by this nice gentleman who was BUFFING our windows up 8 floors with what looks like a Bosch power tool with a buffing attachment.  Now that's deep cleaning.  This particular crew has been here on our building for the better part of a few weeks doing power washing and scrubbing and such.  In fact, I think they've done the window in my little office at least three times with various implements.  Those implements are the most fascinating part to me:  seeing how they're all strapped down (see the thin cable on the end of the buffer next to the power cord?) and everything is secured to ensure it doesn't plummet to the ground.  These guys are such pros that even with their tools restrained in that way, they're able to work.  Let alone the conditions and the height.  My god...the height.

View From My Desk

Image
Earlier this week, I was standing at my desk minding my own business when these guys showed up.   Kind of odd having a face-to-face with a stranger 8 stories up in the air.  I'm sure these guys have some stories to tell! You can **kind of** see my view in the image - through all the soap.    If you look closely, you can spot the Hancock on the right hand side in the background.  Lots of open sky for the Air/Water Show practice runs.
