Chicago Beer Exhibit At Elmhurst History Museum

Yesterday's post about the Elmhurst History Museum's archives being used for economic development purposes by the City of Elmhurst got me to poke around the Elmhurst History Museum's site and Facebook page.  I ended up coming across this piece in the Chicago Tribune by Steve Johnson that covers his Top 10 picks for Fall Museum Trips.

Included in there at $6 was the Elmhurst History Museum and their new Beer exhibit.  From the story:

6. "Beer Chicago: The Refreshing History": Lots of institutions these days do beer-themed events. This is all well and very good. But the Elmhurst Historical Museum had the bright idea to make an actual exhibition based on the sudsy stuff. The show's menu includes a beer-making station and the history of the city's beers, beermakers and taverns. There's also a tie-in with the Sept. 19 Elmhurst Craft Beer Fest, on the grounds of the museum. Sept. 18 to Feb. 14 at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. The exhibit opens this coming Friday and sounds pretty interesting.  From the official description:

Beer Chicago: The Refreshing History Opens September 18, 2015-February 14, 2015
Chicago was built by immigrants seeking new opportunities, and one of the notable crafts brought with them was beer brewing. German-Americans established Chicago’s first brewery in 1833, and the Town of Chicago became official at a tavern that year after a gathering and vote of 12-1. Beer has been a component of Chicago’s colorful fabric ever since, continuing today with the emergence of the home brewing trend and a vibrant craft beer industry. “Beer Chicago” provides a unique and engaging historical look at beer culture, taverns, and breweries and the city’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for beer. Learn about different beers brewed in the Chicago area, explore the science of beer making at a hands-on activity station, and encounter the “bartender” at an interactive video kiosk as he shares knowledge about Chicago saloon and tavern history.

Nat and I have talked a few times about going to the museum, but we just haven't ever made it there.  The Charles Schultz' "Pigskin Peanuts" exhibit was the one that peaked my interest the most and it has, unfortunately ended it's run in August.   Will beer be the one that gets us in there?  Perhaps it will.  And if it does, I'll be sure to post about it.
