Faux Bois Cache Pot - Christmas Haul - December 2023

Yesterday,  I posted a photo of my first faux bois piece; a plant stand.

Today, I'm showing my second;  a Faux Bois cache pot:

This one is decorative, too, as it doesn't have a drainage hole. 

The pot that I have stuck inside this isn't the right fit as it is a bit too tall and shows far too much interior container.   Seems like I have two choices:  keep it as a cache pot, or take the plunge and try to drill a hole in the bottom.  I've watched a bunch of videos on YouTube about 'how to drill a hole in bottom of a pot' and I still lack the confidence to actually give it a try.  A tile/glass drill bit seems to do the trick along with some moxie and... a little help via the Rehbinder effect.

Lou Malnati's Salad Dressing Recipe as Published in the 60's

Earlier this winter, I wrote about the old Lou Malnati's menu and mentioned that as I was waiting around for my pie to finish up, I spied an old Chicago Tribune article posted on the wall that included the original Lou Malnati's Italian Salad Dressing Recipe.  The Tribune reporter called it "prized".  We were set to host a little pizza party over the weekend, so I figured I'd give it a shot.  Here's the article as seen through my mobile phone's camera. I'm not a wine drinker, so the fact that the recipe called for Burgundy wine didn't strike me as odd.  I went shopping at Angelo Caputos in Addison - a really incredible shopping experience - and when I got to the wine section I found Burgundy wine was carried ONLY in those HUGE jugs.  And they were dirt cheap.  The only issue is that needed just 4 ounces.  We ended up with a whole-lotta-wine that Nat won't drink. I've taken the recipe and modified it a bit by eliminating the percentage

Frans Fontaine Hornbeam Planted - Hedgerow Spring 2018

Yesterday, I shared a photo of our eight Frans Fontaine European Hornbeam 2.5" caliper trees that had been delivered .  These trees were a long-time coming and we've been planning, talking and thinking about them for almost a year.  Today, the trees went in!  Here's the guys digging the holes and placing the trees in the holes to check for placement and spacing.  We ended up going with six feet of spread between each one and 30" away from the fence. You can tell from the photo above that they are going into a low spot and that our neighbor's to the north truck and garage are pretty visible (right now) from the top of our property.
