Shagbark Hickory Bareroot Tree Planted - Earth Day Tree 2021
This marks the 53rd tree that I've planted on our property since we planted our first one on Earth Day 2017. This was a tiny, bareroot tree that we picked up from the Environmental Club from Benet Academy. They were giving away tiny trees for their Earth Day project. There were a couple of Oak trees to choose from (Burr and Pin) and this Shagbark Hickory. You can see the little tree in the photo below that measures close to 36" tall including all the roots. That's about 24" below the ground and about 12" above ground.
The roots were wrapped in newspaper and then in plastic. I removed the packaging, straightened out some of the roots and planted in in the bed - not far from the fence - in amongst the hydrangeas on the south side of the backyard. Here is the Shagbark Hickory as it stands now:
I'm not getting too attached to this little tree, but I'll give it some water and a little bit of food and see what happens.
As for the full list of trees, here's where things stand:
53 trees across (now) five planting seasons. There are (For now...) 43 of those trees still alive.2017 (9 planted. 3 Died. 6 of the original annual total alive now):

4 and 5: 2 Lindens that I espalier'd and placed by the south fence line near our kitchen windows.

13. The weeping flowering cherry tree that the Babe planted for Earth Day 2018.
14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21. These Frans Fontaine Hornbeams.
22. A replacement Chanticleer Pear tree (3" caliper) out front by our garage
25. Our replanted/replacement Dawn Redwood. Same spot as the first.
26. This teeny-tiny Bald Cypress that I planted in the front yard, in between our driveway and our neighbor to the north.
33. My new Weeping White Spruce that will only grow about 4' wide placed near the fence line alongside the espalier'd Lindens.
34. A NEW Dwarf Alberta Spruce planted near the south fence line. Our first "dwarf" tree.

38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45. These apple trees in a Belgian Fence espalier.
46. A small Northern Red Oak tree - our first Oak tree planted.
47. A 'decapitated' Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud that I planted on a whim.
48. A replacement (from the nursery) Lavender Twist Redbud planted close to the brother.
49. A tall(ish) London Plane tree that suffered some transplant and frost shock, but seemed to recover.
