Two New Disneyland Roses - Bare Root Floribunda Roses - Planted in Sideyard Garden - April 2025

We started with one Disneyland Rose back in the Fall of 2017 and grew the collection to three by 2022.  In Spring 2023, I was gifted three more bare root Disneyland Roses for my birthday and I planted them in the front porch bed under the Triumph Elm tree.  All three of those 'new' roses didn't come back in 2024 - and that's where I planted a few Dahlia tubers.

The three Disneyland Roses planted in the sideyard struggled last year.  Between pests and drought, they had limited production during the 2024 growing season.  I failed to water them enough during the early part of the season, but baby'd them later in the year.

This year, for Christmas, I was gifted two MORE Disneyland roses.  They, too, are bare root.  They arrived via UPS in a box and were well-packed.  The roots were still covered in wet paper, so they didn't dry-out during the travel.

Below is a photo showing the packing of the two Disneyland Roses from Jackson and Perkins:

The instructions said to soak the roots of the bare root Disneyland Roses upon receiving them and ahead of planting.  I put each one in its own trug and filled them with water:

There's some talk on the Web about "not planting roses in the spots where roses failed" in the past, so I decided to NOT plant these in the front porch bed.  Instead, I found two spots in the sideyard where (not last year, but every other year previously) Disneyland Roses have thrived.

Below are a couple of photos showing the holes I dug to plant these.  I went wider and deeper than the roots - as instructed.  This soil is very loam-y at the top - about the top 10 inches are pure loam.  That's thanks to the combination of municipal biosolids, mushroom compost and Moo-nure (composted manure).   One of the new roses is going in front of the power meter service and the other is going further back at the edge of the basement window well.

The new Disneyland Roses have a number of large, green canes.  I planted them low - as instructed.  Below are two photos showing the current state of the Disneyland Roses - just planted:

I'll monitor these for growth and buds in the coming weeks.  I'll stay on these watering-wise this year in hopes that they can fight off disease and pests.

If 2024 was the year of 'cut flowers', 2025 is shaping up to be another, similar year with 66% more Disneyland Roses.
