One Year And Counting Until Our Wedding Day

dsc01205.jpgSeptember 6, 2008. 365 days away. If you head over to our wedding blog, you'll see the countdown widget is finally under the one year mark. Natalie and I were engaged last December, so we're 9 months into it with 20 to go. Seems like a long time, eh? It is. But for Nat, the planning never stops. I'm excited about gearing up for this year and all that it entails. We've secured the venue, the caterer, and the church. That leaves pretty much everything else. Nat's on top of it, so I don't have to be. We're having a discussion over the band as we speak. I want one group, she wants another. We all know who's going to win that battle.

There's so much to do and see that Nat has even started to write a secondary blog about all the wedding things she sees and reads about called i heart peonies. She's a great writer who puts a smile on my face. You should go subscribe to her feed on the site now. I'm excited that she's enjoying the web as it relates to our wedding. As we get closer, I'm sure we'll be doing more and more things with our wedding website to ensure that everyone that's invited will get all the details they need. At some point, unless you're a really traditional bride, I could see folks just sending out invitations with web urls. In fact, why not just twitter it to your friends and family. That seems like it's all the rage, doesn't it?!?!

Regardless of how we do the invites, I couldn't be more thrilled that Natalie said "yes" last December. It was the best decision of my life. Thanks, Nat! I can't wait.

    that was very sweet :) as much fun as all this planning has been, i am looking forward to what we will be doing a year from tomorrow- just being married, and hopefully napping!

    and even if i "win" the band conversation, how can you lose with a wilco acoustic set during dinner and at least two songs from "the band?" oh, yeah, and the rock violin!

    I am a Wedding Photographer and Videographer ( www.paulopics.com ). Have you thaught about make a "VIDEO INVITATION"?
    That is getting more and more popular. Think about it!

Lou Malnati's Salad Dressing Recipe as Published in the 60's

Earlier this winter, I wrote about the old Lou Malnati's menu and mentioned that as I was waiting around for my pie to finish up, I spied an old Chicago Tribune article posted on the wall that included the original Lou Malnati's Italian Salad Dressing Recipe.  The Tribune reporter called it "prized".  We were set to host a little pizza party over the weekend, so I figured I'd give it a shot.  Here's the article as seen through my mobile phone's camera. I'm not a wine drinker, so the fact that the recipe called for Burgundy wine didn't strike me as odd.  I went shopping at Angelo Caputos in Addison - a really incredible shopping experience - and when I got to the wine section I found Burgundy wine was carried ONLY in those HUGE jugs.  And they were dirt cheap.  The only issue is that needed just 4 ounces.  We ended up with a whole-lotta-wine that Nat won't drink. Tom Thayer's Italian Beef Recipe

TOM’S TAILGATER ITALIAN BEEF COURTESY OF Steve Dahl  and  DAHL.COM Ingredients: One 3 ½ to 4 pound boneless beef chuck pot roast One package of Zesty Italian Salad Dressing and Recipe Mix One 16 oz. jar of hot giardiniera One 16 oz. jar of mild giardiniera One dozen baguettes (French rolls) Directions: In a four-quart Crock-Pot, pour in one bottle of giardiniera. Place the roast on top of the layer of giardiniera. Sprinkle the salad dressing mixture on top of the roast. Add the second bottle of giardiniera to the top of the roast. Cover Crock-Pot and cook on high for 6 to 8 hours. When fork tender, shred the roast in the Crock-Pot and allow it to combine with the other ingredients. Cedar Summit Panorama Playset from Costco

Move over vegetable garden and garage pavillion, there's potentially a new entrant into the currently crowded backyard at the Parrillo household.  Behold:  this beauty.  The Cedar Summit Panorama Playset from Costco.   Comes with 3 swings and a tube slide.  Nat spotted this behemoth at Costco and after doing a bit of comparison shopping at a place like Menards (more expensive, I think) and Wannemaker's (don't sell these type of things any more), it appears to be a fair deal. It is a kit - so I'd be putting it together myself, but I'm up for that challenge.  The real issue is getting it home.  I'm going to head back to Costco to take a look to see if it will fit in Nat's car with the back seats folded down.  If not, it seems like I'll be renting a truck from Home Depot.  Yes, the Babe is likely too small for a lot of this, but certainly NOT the swings.  We take her to the park on a regular basis and she gets a kick out of the swi...
