My Collecting Treasures Mantra

My dad collected treasures.

Therefore,

I collect treasures.

Or something like that.

If you've read any of the posts here on my little online diary, you'll notice that I spend time going to Estate Sales, garage sales, rummage sales, antique malls, flea markets and what-have-yous.

But, there is only so much that I come home with - and that's a lesson that I learned from my Dad's collecting habits.  Also, Nat would kill me if I let my 'collecting' flag really fly.  We'd be saddled with so much junk that we'd end up on the Hoarder's show.

So, there are times when I see something now at an Estate Sale or a Flea Market that I pick up, appreciate and then put down and walk away.

I came across a quote from Disney Imagineer Joe Rhode that I've carried with me ever since I read it and it has become my mantra when it comes to 'collecting treasures'.  He seemed to say it off-handed in a follow-up comment to a photo he shared.  When asked if he purchased the item in question he replied:
It is enough to enjoy the existence of things without possessing all of them.
That's my Estate Sale version of 'Serenity now!'

You can see some of the treasures that I've passed on here at the 'one that got away' tag listing.
