New Amaryllis Bulbs - Shine Dream and Flamed Amadeus - November 2025

At the Wannemaker's Annual Christmas Open House, we met the Big Guy (of course), ate some grilled foods from Casey's and...came away with two big amaryllis bulbs.  As is the tradition.  Each of my two youngest kids picked out a bulb that there plant as we try (*fingers crossed*) to get some Christmas flowers.  I previously posted some details of amaryllis bulbs at Home Depot this season

Last year, I planted two bulbs from Wannemakers:  A Double Dream.  And an Exotic Star.   The Exotic Star bloomed right around the New Year.  But, the Double Dream was a total dud.  It sent up a bud tip in March (yes...March!), but then it withered and died.

In 2023, we planted three.  One of them was a dud - Samba. But, the La Paz went off quickly. With a Rilona Amaryllis coming in right in-between.  Blooming in January.

This year, we are trying two new (to us) bulbs.  Here are the two tags of the bulbs they picked out this year below:

The first one is a Flamed Amadeus Amaryllis. Netherland Bulb Company says it is a 'double galaxy' variety.  Champlain Peony Company has a listing up that says:

'Amadeus' Amaryllis produce some of the largest blossoms in the Amaryllis world and 'FLAMED AMADEUS' is amongst the larges of the group. The huge 9" double blossoms of 'Flamed Amadeus' are large double blooms and aptly named. Bright red flowers with white accents and dark red hearts look like dancing balls of fire.

Sounds pretty good.  HUGE = floppy, I bet.  That means we'll have to poison these with some vodka to keep them short.

The second one is Shine Dream.  Breck's has this product page and description:

Shine Dream Amaryllis captivates with its mesmerizing 8" blooms, unfurling 8-10 weeks after planting to reveal a spectacle of iridescent white petals. These recurved beauties are elegantly outlined in coral hues, with a vibrant lime green centre adding a touch of tropical flair. Bulbs produce one or two stems, each yielding 2-5 flowers.

Iridescent white petals.  8" blooms.  "Recurved".  Sounds nice.

The kids will plant these in some clay pots.  After watering them in, I'll put them on the marble table in the dining room.  That gets southern exposure and has a heat vent below it - which warms up the marble and (I think/hope?) will get the bulb to 'get-going'.  We're six weeks until Christmas, so we'll see how soon they get forced and show up (if at all...).
